Normally, your recruitment efforts are fairly productive and you consistently get good people in the door. But over the last year, things have slowed down to the point where it’s getting difficult to get even mediocre candidates to show interest in your company. What’s going on?
The truth is that your company’s reputation may be in need of some management. We live in a transparent world and just about every company has had some kind of review made about it on websites like Glassdoor. Whether good or bad, this can have an influence on whether or not candidates believe your company is a good place to explore career opportunities.
Here are some things to look for in determining if your reputation is inviting to potential employees.
Are your employees willingly referring people for job openings?
When a company has a positive reputation, employees enjoy their job so much that they want their friends to come work with them. Therefore, one of the signs that your company has a positive reputation is when you start receiving many referrals from your current employees. If you have an employee referral program in place and no one is using it, this could be a bad sign.
Do you have high turnover rates or problems with retention in certain departments?
Turnover rates can be an indicator of a company suffering from a poor reputation and an industry. Reputation could be based on things like the amount of advancement opportunities or the salary that you are for your employees. These are areas you can correct to improve your reputation and attract more job seekers.
Have there been significant drop-offs in the number and quality of applicants?
In terms of your recruitment efforts, have you noticed that candidates are getting fewer and far between? Or are the candidates less qualified than you’re used to getting? Take a look at your job advertisements and application process to make things more positive for candidates.
Does your company website accurately depict your real corporate culture?
A vast majority of candidates will check out the corporate website before they even take the time to apply for a job. Try to look at your company website objectively and determine if you would want to work for your company based on what you see? Is the corporate culture accurately depicted and if so, does it look like a positive place to work?
Are you regularly sharing testimonials of satisfied and outstanding employees?
A great way to raise the bar of your business reputation is to include plenty of employee testimonials on your website and other marketing materials. If you don’t have any testimonials on your website, now is the time to start gathering them. This will attract more candidates when they have the chance to read through what others have said about working for your company.
