As we head into the end of the year, most businesses are gearing up for seasonal peaks and that final push to meet revenue goals. You may be worried that companies are not hiring now, but nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, hiring is up and companies are looking for those last minute great hires to round out the year strong. Employers often beef up hiring now because they have a certain amount of jobs to fill before they lose their staffing budgets for the year.

While we are in the final quarter, it’s never too late to make the most of the remaining months as a job seeker. Here are some ways to end your year on a positive note with a brand new career.

Brush up your resume and all your social media profiles.

During the end of the year, you may find some extra time to work on improving your resume and your social media profiles. This can help you to paint the best picture of yourself for potential recruiters . Make sure you update your profiles with a fresh, professional-looking headshot photo . Work with a career coach to come up with a strategy for making your resume stand out and draft effective cover letters.

Attend all those additional holiday business events, job fairs, and trade shows.

Check with your local community calendar to find out about fun business mixers that have a holiday theme. You may also find many trade shows as well as job fairs going on this time of year. Make sure you have a stack of business cards on hand to give out at these events and let everyone you know understand you are looking for a great new career opportunity.

Register with local staffing agencies and be open to seasonal gigs.

The end of the year can also be the perfect time to reconnect with all of your professional and personal networks. Take the time to send out a card to say hello to an old friend or colleague. Engage in online discussion with some of your former coworkers . Get involved with some industry networks in your area and make it a point to socialize. Many of these activities can put you in the right place at the right time for a great new job.

Maintain a support network and an active lifestyle.

The end of the year can also signal a time when people get a little bit depressed so it is up to you to make an effort to stay very active and find the support you need. Connect with Civic organizations to find out about opportunities to volunteer and get out in the community more often. Most of all, take care of yourself physically by getting in plenty of exercise during this busy time of year.
