Showcase Experience in Your Resume in 4 Steps

Showcasing experienced on a resume is a hot topic these days, especially for workers who have been working for 15 or more years. Some people list every single job they ever worked on a resume. Others don’t put enough of their experience on their resume. So, where is the middle ground here? We will answer that question here, as well as how to showcase your experience on a resume without going too in-depth.

Refrain from Listing Every Job Worked

One of the most important things you need to do with your resume is remove the long list of jobs you have worked in your career. There is no reason to list every single job you ever worked on a resume. Why? Because not all of these jobs help define experience. They might have been holdover jobs because of unemployment. They also might have been jobs worked outside of your industry. You need to list jobs you worked that truly gave you experience in your career.

List Your Accomplishments

Instead of listing every single job you ever worked during your career, list your accomplishments on the resume. An accomplishment is defined as something has been achieved successfully or the successful achievement of a task. These are very important items to include on your resume. They tell more about your experience during your career than a list of jobs worked tells potential employers.

List the Right Jobs

When showcasing experience on your resume, be sure to list the right jobs. If you are applying for a job in the finance industry, only include the most important finance jobs you have worked during your career. If you have been in the business for 15 years, you can drop the jobs you worked right out of college and even get rid of the internship listed on your resume. These items will only take up precious space and they bring nothing to the table. List jobs you have worked within the last five to seven years and what you accomplished at those jobs.

Share the Right Skills

Skills are another important part of your career, which is why they should be included on your resume, no matter how long you have been working. But, you should not list just any skills you have. You need to list skills that will help you perform to the best of your ability if you were to be offered the job for which you are applying. The skills section can be towards the bottom of your resume, but it still needs to include your best skills.

As you can see, showcasing experience on your resume is very important. You must know the best way to do this, so follow the tips outlined above and your resume should shine.
