Listening is one of the most important things you can do during an interview, especially a challenging one. As you listen, make sure you take notes. The notes you take during the interview will help you ask follow-up questions and not ask questions that have the interviewer repeat himself.

Refrain from talking too much or too quickly. You do not want to be overly chatty because this will show the interviewer that you are nervous. Do not try to fill awkward silences with chatter either. This will only make the situation worse. You also do not have to answer questions immediately. Think about your answer for a little bit so the answer does not seem rushed.

Focus on a Real Conversation

Never treat a job interview like an interrogation. The more you get defensive during an interview, the more likely it is that you will not receive a call back from the hiring manager. You need to assume the best in the interviewer, even if you are not getting along with him or her. The interviewer is not attempting to antagonize you on purpose. Prove yourself with a strong answer, and not a snarky remark.
