‘Give Thanks’ to Your Employees With These 4 Tips

The holiday season truly kicks off the fourth Thursday in November when Thanksgiving is celebrated. While expressing gratitude should be an all-year practice, the end of the year is an excellent time to go above and beyond for your team. Here are four ways to ‘give thanks’ to your employees:

 

Fill the season with fun

While the holiday season is full of lights and excitement, it can often be a stressful time, especially around the office. To lighten the mood, try to plan fun events that will provide just enough distraction to keep your team engaged. Potlucks throughout the season or pizza parties are easy ways to say thank you to your team.

 

Depending on your budget and time allowances, you can consider outside of the office fun, like team-building events or holiday parties. You can go to laser tag, paintball, a local sports game, etc. Finding something that fits in with your company culture is essential so your team is excited.

 

Extra PTO

A great way to show your team you’re thankful for them is giving them extra time off, whether it’s an early dismissal, half-day or even a few days, the extra time out of the office is always appreciated. You’re contributing to work-life balance during a notoriously busy time and expressing your understanding of their lives outside of the office.

 

More casual days

This only works if you’re in a business casual office where jeans aren’t the norm, but it can be an easy and effective thank you. Giving weeks of casual dress to your employees can help change the office environment and make it more relaxed. Plus, it’s likely members of your staff are taking time off around the holidays, so casual dress rules can reward and thank those who cannot because of their workload.

 

More flexibility

In parts of the country, the weather is getting colder and crazier. The last thing people want to do is leave their warm homes to face the cold just to make it to work. Consider being more flexible with work schedules and locations during holiday time. Even if the climate remains nice, the option to work in pajamas is a tempting concept. If this is a feasible way of giving thanks to your employees, they in turn will thank you for the thoughtful opportunity.
