Productivity is the key to a healthy, functioning business. But all too often, this vital quality is missing from a work team. Why? The problem could be any number of things, including:
- Lack of Accountability
- Poor Communication
- Burn-out
- Poor Planning
- Too Many Interruptions
Wrike, a project management software firm, conducted a survey to determine the best ways to supercharge your team’s productivity. Here’s what they found, and how to apply it to improve your own team’s productivity.
Develop a Sense of Ownership
The number one motivator, according to the survey, is a sense of responsibility. Help your employees develop a sense of ownership over their work by including them in the planning process, and avoid micromanaging. Allow workers the independence needed to feel responsible for their work.
Create Incentives for Efficiency
42.1% of employees in the survey said that they were motivated by “possible reward.” So, if possible, try creating an incentive program to reward employees for being efficient and productive. You could even encourage a healthy dose of competition by making a contest out of it.
Set the Example by Taking Breaks
Taking a break can boost productivity by refreshing the mind. While breaks are required by law in most places, though, many offices cultivate a culture that tacitly encourages employees to skip breaks. If your workers are in the habit of working through lunch or not taking a 15-minute break, you need to set the example. Make it a point to take breaks in your schedule, and encourage your employees to do the same.
Before you can take steps to increase productivity, you need to determine what the problem is. Be sure to spend time observing, as well as talking to, your team members. If you do, you can figure out how to best help them improve efficiency.
