4 Tips to Staying Focused Amid Job Search Rejection

September 16th, 2015

A job search will not always yield the positive results that you expect, right away. Any success you had in searching for a job earlier in your career will not be indicative of the success you will have later in your career. You must come to the realization that every job search is different or else you will quickly become discouraged with the results. For your benefit, we have put together four tips to staying focused amid job search rejection.

Take a Broad Perspective on Things

You should always take a broad perspective on things when conducting a job search. This means that you should take the positive out of not being selected for a job even though you went on an interview or two. Take into consideration the experience you are gaining by interviewing for jobs, answering questions and submitting cover letters. Take what you learned in these interviews and apply them the next time you interview.

Celebrate During the Search

Going on multiple interviews, but failing to land a job offer can be very disheartening. It could cause you to scale back your job search or give up for now. Don’t let this happen. Instead, celebrate different things during your search. For example, if you just completed a third straight interview with three different companies, treat yourself to dinner or a night out to recharge your batteries and relax.

Share Feelings about the Search

Sit down and talk with a friend, family member or mentor about your current job search. Let all of your frustrations out in the discussion. There is nothing wrong with venting about the struggles you are facing. It will help you in the long run. Listen to what everyone has to say and what advice they offer. They are in the working world too and have likely gone through the same experiences as you when it comes to searching for a job.

Accept Reality

The real world is harsh, especially when it comes to searching for a job. Not every resume/application will be accepted by a company. You need to come to terms with this, even if you think you are the best choice for the job. When you accept reality, you will experience less frustration and stress during your next job search.

If you put the four tips above to good use, you should have no trouble the next time you begin to look for a job.
